Carmichael is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sacramento County, California, United States. It is an affluent suburb in the Greater Sacramento metropolitan area. The population was 61,762 at the 2010 census. Daniel W. Carmichael (born 1867) came to California in 1885. In 1909, he developed Carmichael Colony No. I, 2,000 acres (8 km2) of what was once part of the Rancho San Juan Mexican land grant. Carmichael later bought another 1,000 acres (4 km2) previously part of the Rancho Del Paso Mexican land grant, that he called Carmichael Colony No. 2. It bordered the first colony to the east and Walnut Avenue to the west; the southern boundary was Arden Way with Sutter Avenue to the north.

Mission Oaks developed and maintains 11 parks, totalling 88.75 acres. Six school parks were originally developed and maintained by the park district; however, two of those (Billy Mitchell and Starr King) were given back to the San Juan Unified School District. The remaining four school parks (Greer, Del Paso Manor, Cowan and Sierra Oaks), which amount to about 14 acres, continue to be maintained by Mission Oaks. In addition, the District maintains the County-owned Hazelwood Greens, a stormwater detention facility of about 2 acres. All totaled, the District provides a bit over 105 acres of parkland for the community’s enjoyment.

The Sacramento Fine Arts Center (SFAC) is a California nonprofit corporation, authorized under IRC sections 501C3, whose mission is to contribute to the cultural life of our community. Established jointly by independent art clubs, it is dedicated to the creation and presentation of the visual arts. The Center is entirely self-supporting and operated by volunteers. Its operation is made possible by memberships, contributions, sales and rentals of art work, and numerous community fund-raisers.

It all started with two brothers who had a dream but barely enough money to pay the bills each month. Eli and Jorge opened El Palmar in 2003. Roughly translated, El Palmar means “your oasis”. We began with little more than a dream and a prayer. Between us, we had more than twenty years of experience working as employees in other people’s restaurants so we had a good idea of what worked and what didn't work.
